SVR2DVD means SIGGRAPH Video Review to DVD. This is a two component project that is designed to archive analog SVR's, as well as convert them to DVD. This web page is designed to provide an overview, as well as status, of this project. Click on each button to better understand any element of this project.
The bulk of ACM/SIGGRAPH's Video Library from its conception to 1999 is in Analog format. The content is deteriorating in terms of signal strength, as well as the media itself, which is subject to physical deterioration, flaking, moisture and mold. The existing SVR's in the SIGGRAPH Community's hands are deterioriating, particularly as repeated viewings of the same material exacerbate deterioration.
Modern software, hardware and digital signal processing techniques allow us to convert the library in analog ormat into digital format with very little loss of signal. This further allows us to redistribute the content in the form of interactive DVD's.
DVD Content may be formatted in a non-linear, indexed format to allow the user to access specific elements of content interactively. There is no deterioration caused by access to a DVD as one may experience with video tape.
