Experimental software in 2D paint systems development. There were two kinds of graphics elements: lines, polygons. The text was generated by converting the Hershey fonts, which took a lot of effort to implement. The graphic elements are actually polygons. Each time the graphic was recalled from disk, it had to be redrawn.
Today, FLASH 4/5, Adobe Illustrator and Macromedia Freehand work on similar principles.
